Writer, Designer, Living Weapon

Ben Reeves is a narrative mythmaker who turns words into worlds – from haunted starships to monster prisons. Backed by over twenty years of storytelling experience, he brings heart, humor, and mythic weight to every project he touches.

He’s written for Marvel’s Midnight Suns and Civilization VII, spent 15 years at Game Informer exploring the industry’s legends, and began his journey at Marvel Comics. His stories weave myth and modernity with a wink, a spark, and a beating heart.

Previous WORK

I was a narrative designer and writer on Civilization VII, forging the next chapter of history, one turn at a time.

I was a narrative designer and writer on Marvel's Midnight Suns, helping bring Marvel’s heroes, and their demons, to life at Firaxis Games.

I was the Lead Writer on Money Mavericks, an interactive game that proves learning about money doesn’t have to feel like homework.

In 2016, I served as the narrative writer on Lionel City Builder 3D: Rise of the Rails, helping Big John Games bring its world to life.

From 2006-2022, I chronicled the world’s stories at Game Informer, writing reviews, previews, and cover stories about the creators shaping the game industry.

I’m the author of Kill Screen, an award-winning novel where a rogue AI collides with a man haunted by loss and depression, set against the backdrop of the video game industry.

For Marvel's Midnight Suns, I was integral to building the narrative immersion, delivering a full spectrum of player-facing content. This included branching dialogue for character relationships, scripting cinematic moments, and writing unique barks and ambient dialogue to bring the game world to life.

---
I helped shape the emergent narrative for Civilization VII, writing procedural storylets that adapt to player choices and ensure every game tells a unique story. I also edited and rewrote hundreds of Civilopedia entries and workshopped Leader VO scripts to help define the game’s historical voice.

---
System Shutdown is a short, branching Twine story. You sit down to play a game. The computer talks back. It says the fate of humanity depends on you. Do you believe it?

---
For over 16 years at Game Informer, I sharpened my writing craft by telling stories to millions of subscribers. I oversaw the creation of hundreds of long-form features, reviews, and iconic cover stories on the industry's biggest franchises. My work demanded empathetic and clear editorial feedback, which directly translated into the ability to craft compelling narratives for a diverse audience.
